Hi, hello, happy Friday.

I hope your week has been smooth and filled with some sort of peace. I am finding it hard to believe we are halfway through June and therefore halfway through 2022 already. Time has felt strange the last few years, and yet— it goes on. I’m leaning into less control and just letting it by pass by.

ICYMI, we have a new summer playlist out, featuring artists from across the American South.

Scalawag has a new series investigating media portrayals of cops and abolition justice in pop culture. Very cool.

Cops are everywhere in pop culture. Woody from Toy Story: a whole sheriff. Winston of New Girl: an awful rookie cop. So we're launching pop justice: a series tackling how media from TV to TikTok upholds copaganda and stalls conversations on abolition. scalawagmagazine.org/2022/06/pop-cu…

On that note, this looks like a very cool project:

ATLANTA: Some friends and I have been working on this for several months and we are finally going live! Email asapatlanta404@gmail.com to become involved and share widely!
Image 1: a navy blue Instagram graphic with white and like green stars. In a lighter blue texts read “abolitionist southerners against; prisons!” In the bottom right hand corner in lime green there is text with an arrow reading “learn more”
Image 2: A navy blue Instagram graphic with white stars along the outline. There are blue, orange, yellow, and green blobs displaying text. The text reads: Abolitionist Southetners Against Prisons (ASAP) is a new abolitionist group based in Atlanta. We’re seeking to grow our network of abolitionists in Atlanta who are interested in forming connections inside, mutual aid work, organizing, and policy research. Currently we are meeting 1-2x per month focusing on political education. We are looking for a core group of committed members to help build the foundations of our work before we expand outwards with membership and initiatives. Experience engaging in mutual aid across prison walls is a plus. For more information email us at asapatlanta404@gmail.com
