How is it almost September already? I just finished my first week back with my students for the school year, and time feels to be moving both impossibly fast and slow all at once. Every day this week I have woken up at 5am to descend into the fog and the forest, and all I can think is how manifestation must be real because two years ago all I could dream of was this. Hang in there, friends. And if you’re looking for some ways to spend your weekend, may I recommend the below:
I am absolutely OBSESSED with these photos from Allison Janae Hamilton. This picture could have been pulled straight from a scene in the novel I’m writing. I also highly recommend this interview with her from my favorite pub ever, Bitter Southerner.
Susannah Felts reflects on the Nashville Christmas bombing for Joyland. This incredible essay also touches on depression and parenthood and the language sings and jumps off the page.
The things I would have done to attend this dinner party and cookbook launch in Georgia for Matthew Raiford’s Bress ‘n’ Nyam.
I wrote about the moon, magic, and belief in the newsletter this week.
Lindsay Trout Hughes wrote about honeymoons and ghost towns in The Audacity’s Emerging Writer Series.
Silas House covering my favorite topic of discussion, the American empathy gap.
The New Yorker asks: can oysters protect us from rising oceans?
Soon, my friends. Soon.
A reminder for the weekend:
