SO excited to finally share this very cool thing I have been sitting on: Good Folk is now in partnership with WXYC, UNC’s student radio station (and the first radio station in the world to broadcast its signal over the internet!), and Fatwood Studio, a collaborative workspace for independent media, art, and designed located in rural Carrboro, North Carolina.
As part of our partnership, Good Folk, WXYC, and Fatwood are teaming up for LANDMARKS, a new live folk music series. LANDMARKS seeks to engage with the creative and critical communities built around folk and traditional music in the Triangle area. We’re thrilled to announce our first guest of the series, Nathan Bowles!
As Paradise of Bachelors notes, Nathan "is a multi-instrumentalist musician and teacher living in Durham, North Carolina. His work, both as an accomplished solo artist and as a sought-after ensemble player, explores the rugged country between the poles of Appalachian old-time traditions and ecstatic, minimalist drone." Nathan's set will be followed by a conversation with Spencer George of the Good Folk podcast and preceded by a short introduction from a scholar of folk music.
Let's look to the roots of our past and the expansion of our future—tangled, interwoven, expansive—together. Join us at Fatwood Studio in Carrboro on October 6th at 6pm; hope to see you there.
LANDMARKS is a donation-based series, with a suggested donation of $12. All donations go to support artists and contributors. Higher donations are certainly welcome, but all levels of support are welcome; no one will be turned away.
Fatwood Studio is located in rural Orange County, about ten minutes from downtown Carrboro. Parking is limited and we ask that cars RSVP to the event. Carpooling is highly encouraged.
